Another one bites the dust

Well, Chris and I are officially out of the limelight as the newly married couple in our family. Kevin proposed to Alysha last night and she said yes! And so the wedding plans begin. It was about -35 last night with windchill and so kevin's plan of going ice skating didn't quite work out because when they got there it was closed and covered in snow so he took her for a walk which I'm guessing was pretty short and that was that. Before this big event happened we had a little family gathering for Chris' grandpa's 75th birthday. We played a rousing game of buzz word which the men won, only because they had easy words, or they cheated. Of course. Chris' parents made the trip up not only for the birthday but also to be there for the big proposal night. Yes, it's been a weekend filled of special events. Tonight was the superbowl and Kevin and Alysha were over to watch. It was a pretty good game to watch, even though it was Ryan's team that won.

Okay so I'm going to take over now because Vicky is talking to her mom on the phone. For the exciting news which they are talking about check out Jamie or Paul's blog. Oh and I realized that Vicky said ice skating in the above paragraph. She should realize by now that ice skating is just called skating here so she doesn't need to be so specific. Hmm, what can I tell you from my point of view. Things are a bit stressful because according to everyone at school I should be applying for all these teaching jobs already and we really don't know what or where we want to be and yeah it just a whole new thing. We'd like to go to BC but I don't know how many jobs are out there and I know that getting a job here, at least in a small rural place wouldn't be hard. And then there is the plan to go overseas but it seems to be getting smaller because of all these weddings we want to be at. Anyhow, I guess its just one of those things we have to trust God with and ride it out eh. Yep. Its pretty nice to know that someone knows how it will all work out and that we don't need to worry.

Anyways enough about my worries. What else can we say wicky? She contemplates while biting her nails which are already non existent because she always bites them. That girl and her bad habits. So I'm reading this book called Searching For God Knows What. Its pretty rad. Its by Donald Miller. I really like his point of view on being a Christian and all that. Check it out. I think Vicky thinks that this is getting a bit long but I know you all love hearing from me. So I guess I'll go now. Here are some pictures from the weekend.

The love birds with Chris desperately wanting to be in the picture

Hey Apes, this time they really are engaged.

I don't understand this picture.

This one's for Ryan "Roary".

swedish berries and boys

Well, it's time for an update. This past week has been a busy one. Last tuesday we had a special guest appearance from Angelle who was out doing a tour promoting her camp Bird River. It was good to see her again, I hadn't seen her since the last time she went out on this tour. We had a splendid night of touring the sites, walking the town and seeing scary art of randomly stacked chairs with nooses interspersed. On thursday right after my last class we headed out to Edmonton for a basketball tournament that Bethany (which Chris coaches) was in. Me in a van with 13 boys. Lovely. Actually it wasn't too bad or very eventful until the last hour where we got to see a giant egg and were swerving on the road because of the massive gusts of wind. I just thought the guy driving was a really bad driver but I guess he had an excuse. We got into Edmonton around 9pm and after getting told we were in the wrong building and finally finding our real building we watched some basketball and went to bed. For some reason it was really hot in our room so we closed the vent but that was the wrong decision because this made our room smell like toilet cleaner. I figured out the next morning that opening the vent made the smell go away. On friday I watched the boys play a good game that they ended up losing. We went to the West Ed Mall in between games and I finally found a pair of pants that fit people without stick figures. We got to see the sea lion show, that was pretty exciting, my favorite part was the little penguin that waddled around, he was cute. After the mall they had another game and Jen showed up to watch with me. Then I escaped the boys dorm and spent the night with Jen. We had a pretty normal night, bought some groceries, amazingly found a white spot and rented the Lake House and ate swedish berries and m & m's. We watched the Lake House on Jen's laptop and it was on the highest volume possible but we could barely hear it. Not the best way to watch a movie. Some parts were hard to know what they said but I think I got the jist of it. Here's some pics of our hangout time.

We had an eventful time trying to fill up my air mattress and not letting it all deflate before we plugged it up. Jen, I think Chris figured out our problem, once you get the big plug in, there's a little opening in that plug that you can put the air thing into to top off the firmness of the mattress. If that makes sense. Anyways, I slept and it didn't completely deflate overnight so it was all good. The next day we had some blueberry bagels together and I got Jen addicted to soduko's, another one joins the club. Then we toured around downtown Edmonton and the University because I had never seen either and we stopped by Ikea but didn't buy anything cause there's just too much to pick from. We went back to see the boys last game and Jen, you missed an intense ending. The boys were up by 3 and the other team scored a 3 in the last seconds so it went into overtime. Then the other team only had 3 guys left for the last minute or so and our team won by 2. Intense I tell ya. So it was good that they won one game and it was a gooder. Then we waited for the girls team to win the whole thing and we headed home that night. We didn't get home until 4:30am and so I slept until 2 in the afternoon. Not good for sleeping habits. Sunday was pretty much a write off, we just lazed around and did not much worth talking about. So that's what's been going on. We have our reading break coming up in a few weeks and are looking forward to seeing baby brother Ryan who's coming home from Capes for a few days and are also hoping to go to Calgary for the second part of our break to see some dear friends and snowboard if there's snow. Hopefully those plans will get finalized some time this week. Other than that, not much to report. If anyone has a bright idea of a blogging topic for me let me know because I seem to lack writing about stuff if nothing exciting is happening. Kay peace out.

Quarter of a Century and still going...

Well, I'm the big 2-5 today. A quarter of a century, if you prefer that. Lovely. Do you ever remember when you were 10 and you thought that 25 was really old and that people that age were really mature and established and had kids and all that? Yeah, well that's not me at all. It's funny how you assume things like that because that's not how it ends up. My birthday consisted of school and more school so we celebrated it yesterday. Chris' parents were out helping Kevin move and his dad was out coaching the herbert basketball team in a tournament. So yesterday we had a nice brunch which I could actually taste which was exciting. I got a really bad cold last thursday and it's just starting to leave, hence me being able to taste. On wednesday last week we were hit with a massive blizzard. Chris and I attempted to walk to school that morning but turned back after one minute of walking in -30 something weather with snow blowing straight into our faces. No fun. The next day is when I got sick so we decided to skip that day too. We weren't the only ones who skipped so I feel it is justified. It was sort of a nice unexpected break even though I spent most the time passed out from tylenol cold medicine. I accidentally took two night pill's during the day, bad idea. Woah, got a little side tracked. My birthday...it was short and sweet. Right when I woke up Chris came in with his presents. I got a sweet puzzle mat so I can do puzzles whenever I want and then roll them up so the pieces are not all over the place and a puzzle to go with it and a random classic movie, the goonies. Then we went for brunch which was tasty, got some groceries and had a nap. No parties here. I was still a little out of it so no parties were fine with me. I decided to drop one of my classes today and switch for another, I'm cutting it pretty tight, tomorrow is the last day to make changes before you get penalties. But I think it was the right choice, more along the lines of what I'm interested in. Other than that, things are starting to get busy. Chris didn't have to coach last week but now it's going to be happening every week, he goes out to hepburn on tuesday and wednesday nights fo practice and then there's a bunch of tournaments, the first of which is in edmonton! Party with Jen! Works for me. Even though I'm only taking 4 courses this semester it feels as if it's going to be just as busy as when I had 6. There seems to be a lot more projects and assignments in these classes for some reason. And we all know that those take up a lot of time. Chris is going to be pretty busy too I reckon. But it's out last semester so we'll suck it up. We're in the process of thinking through what we want to do when school is done. There are many possibilities but not of them have been solidified in our minds. Do we want to leave the country? Do we want to move to BC? Or is there some random option out there that we don't know of? Hopefully one day we'll figure it out and we'll feel at peace with it. Anyways, I better get back to work. Farewell.
