Here we are all dressed up for Chris' grad banquet which doesn't make sense that it's two months before he actually graduates but so is life. His bum was good enough to sit on for the good 4 hours that we were there so that was good.
It was a long night of speeches and not enough food. We were the absolute last table to get our food and they basically ran out of food for us so there was slim pickings and by the time we got to dessert there were only a few options. It wasn't all that bad though, we got to see some people who for Chris, he hadn't seen in three weeks or so. The lieutenant-governor of saskatchewan was the keynote speaker and she started off good but then went on a rampage about how proud we should be to live in Canada and Saskatchewan but really had no mention of becoming teachers and how important that was. So she went on for a really long time about something not really related to why she was there. Yeah so that was our friday night. Yesterday we went and returned a bunch of clothes my mom sent that didn't fit and we got chris some new running shoes and a water bottle in exchange for some of it. Kevin and Alysha came over for a funfilled night of ticket to ride and a movie called "facing the giants" which is this football movie that some church in the states made, it was pretty predictable but it we had a fun time watching it. Today will be a lazy day I reckon. We're actually going to go to church for the first time in 3 weeks so that'll be good. That's about it from this end. Chris' bum seems to be healing well, he'll go to the doctor in just over a week to make sure everything is going right so hopefully it is. Other than that, it's getting busy around these parts with school reports and assignments, let's just say I have two major ones to get done in the next couple weeks that I haven't started. Let the fun times begin...

We've had an interesting weekend that's for sure. Here's the story. As you all know, if you read our last post, we went snowboarding on our break. On one run Chris fell on his butt pretty good and got a little bruise from it but it wasn't a big deal. Once we got home it started hurting really bad and he got all feverish and stuff. A few days later it had spread down his butt and there was a lot of painful pressure so he went to the ER and the guy just told him it was a really bad bruise and he'd be in pain for the next two weeks. So he came home but things just got worse and more painful so on friday he went back to the ER and the same doctor saw him again and realized it was probably not just a bruise. I came in after I was done school and we waited for a surgeon to come in and look at it to tell us what it really was and turns out it was an absiss. Basically there's this bump that most guys have on their bums and that's what Chris landed on and it got infected and filled with pus. So he had a very very pusy bum. The surgeon told us he needed surgery so we waited a few more hours and he went in. He was put to sleep for it and everything but it was a success after they let a whole whack load of pus drain out. He had to stay the night and he was allowed to come back home the next day after lunch.
Now he's off school for another week because he can't really sit on his bum. Things seem to be going good, he has pain killers and this thing called a sitz bath that he has to do 3 times a day to keep it clean. It's definitely not in the most convinient location for making sure things don't get infected so if everyone could just keep him in your prayers that it will heal good and that nothing will go wrong, that would be swell. So just to warn all you snowboarders, the next time you go, maybe you should wear a bum pad because you just never know...

Get ready for a long post people. We just had our reading break from school and it was about as long as the one we had for Christmas so that was pretty sweet. It started off with a midnight pick up of Ryan at the airport on Thursday night. He came home from Capes for his four day break. The next day we headed out to the farm, had a quick lunch and were then off to Millar "College of the Bible" for a tournament that Bethany was in.
They ended up being fifth in the tournament but it was sort of a weird set up with them having to play the same team twice in a row on their second day. They did have a closer game the second time around and possibly could have created a major upset against that team but it just didn't come true. On our way home from the last game we thought we would educate ourselves about the giant windmills that are on the way to Millar. There's about 90 of them on the way and they're sort of freaky being so close up to them.

Learning some facts about windmills
Learning some facts about windmillsThe rest of the weekend in Herbert consisted of the boys being boys and playing past time games like "mini-sticks" and a new game of trying to balance the longest on a work out ball which I'm pretty sure they deflated just a tiny bit.

No one defeats Jake the wonder dog, he makes it look easy!It was also Kevin's big 21st birthday on monday which we celebrated on sunday by giving him a last minute, but very thoughtful birthday card. That night we partied it up at Alysha's for their big engagement party. I even tried dance dance revolution. I got a D. But so did many people except Alysha's brother who owns it and is a pro at it.
That was the days spent in Herbert. We took Ryan back on Monday morning to the airport and spent some time at home because Chris had to coach practice at Bethany on Tuesday night. We just chillaxed while we were home, did a little bit of homework but not too much. On thursday morning we made our trek out to Calgary to our friends Rick and Grace and their baby Maya's place. They used to live here in Saskatoon and just moved out there this past fall. We had a great time there playing with a very smiley and cute baby that I took way too many pictures of. On friday afternoon we were able to see my friend Charly from Capes who I hadn't seen in years. I randomly found him one day on Myspace and discovered that he lived in Calgs so we were able to see him on his lunch break. He bought this schnazzy coat at value village to impress Chris for their first time meeting. It was good to see him again, funny guy.
We went for a walk with Grace and Maya that afternoon while Rick was at work and then that night we went to BP's for supper and rented a movie. It was good to see those two and to know that their life in Calgary is a good one. It can't be much better with a baby like this...

Yeah she's pretty much one of the cutest, most content baby's ever. She even made us wish we had one just like her...but we'll hold off for now because chances are we'll get a lovely screaming child.
On saturday morning we left Rick and Grace's place and headed over to Dustin and Rebekah's. Chris went to Capes with both of them and Rebekah also worked at camp with us for many years. We had a lovely brunch with them and headed over to the mall as they had a brief meeting about RSP's and such. Supposedly getting a home in Calgs is outrageously pricey these days. Even for a tiny old home in the city it's like $350,000. Crazy. No thank you. Chris had this "daydream" where Rebekah's dad somehow got 4 flames tickets for that night and gave them to us. His dreams didn't come true but we did try and see if there were any on sale but all that were left was standing tickets which were $82. Pay that much to stand? That doesn't make sense to me. So we passed up that offer and made up our own fun. We went for a walk around the parts where they live and looked in random shops, like in fancy fabric stores where one pillow sham cost $175 or something like that. We also had some coffee and such, well I had a smoothie which wasn't very good because the ice wasn't crushed, so it wasn't really a SMOOTHie. Yup then we headed back to their place, looked at some photo's from their family cruise and had a delicious "experimental" supper, and then broke out the Ticket to Ride which Rebekah and Dustin kicked our butts at both times we played. I was a little out of it for most of the night, for some reason I was really tired so for part of the night they had a jam session as I watched and took pictures.
The musical trio
If you've never played this game, you should. Look at how much fun they're having...
All in all it was a very good night, even if Chris' dream of hockey didn't come true. Thanks for having us over guys and hey you made our blog!
The next day we drove out early in the morning, so early that I was dozing the whole day to canmore. We stopped at our hotel, picked up our ski passes, rented some snowboards at a local shop and went to Lake Louise for day of snowboarding. We both hadn't snowboarded in about two years so it was a little sketchy. Many of the trails that we picked were not wide enough for me to relearn how to carve so things got pretty frustrating for me at times. When I did find places that gave me enough room to slowly carve back and forth I was having a pretty good time. I had never been on such a big mountain. You'd go to the back side of the mountain and there would be three other mountains that you could take lifts up to. A little overwhelming. I was done at about 2 because my thighs were burning and the snow coming down the mountain didn't feel too good on the face. So we had some lunch and Chris went for a few more runs by himself. It was a pretty good day, I just wish I could've gotten back into the groove earlier on so I wasn't tired by the time I actually had the hang of it.

After we were done at the mountain we went to Banff to walk around for a bit because I had never been there. We had some supper at a place that Rebekah and Dustin gave us a coupon for so that made it worth it. Then we headed back to canmore and chilled in our hotel room the rest of the night. It was a pretty nice hotel except for it's unfortunate location being right beside a train track which had about 7 trains running on it throughout the night. But we got to sleep in so it was a pretty restful night and the mountains were right outside our window so you can't really beat that. We got home tonight at about 7pm saskatchewan time and tomorrow we're back to school. It hasn't quite sunk in how much I have to do now that school is back in gear. I've sort of just left it all until the break was over and now that it's over I don't want to think about it. But alas, it must be done and it must be done soon. So this might be the last blog for a while as this month will be nuts with huge reports that are due in a fews weeks or so. Kay I better publist this before it all of a sudden gets deleted our something. Farewell friends.
